Dear Student & Parents,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I would like to thank you for your past support & look forward to seeing you at the 19th Tang Soo Do Youth (17 & Under) Challenge on January 27th 2018 The SNOW date is Sunday Jan.28
This years event will be held at our Headquarters school Valentin Karate 75 S Colony Street in Meriden CT. This is an Invitational Tang Soo Do Event. Tang Soo Do Grand Masters, Masters, Instructors and Students throughout New England will be participating. It will be a great opportunity to meet, share and grow in healthy competition! Our goal as always is to run the finest Invitational Tournament in New England. We rely on your support and participation to achieve our goal and I would like to thank you in advance for your commitment.
As always we offer Tiny Tiger and Little Dragons competitor’s two options “Traditional” sparring, forms & breaking 1st-3rd place with participation medals for those that do not place & “Instructional” sparring, forms & breaking where all receive the same trophy. Children 10 years old & under will receive a participation medal. Each division will award TROPHIES for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.
Enclosed is a list of all Divisions for this Championship and a brief Rules explanation. Please review your applications before they are submitted to ensure all information is correct.
I encourage you to Pre-register to keep the cost at a minimum.
Late registration will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday and will continue through out the day. All Black Belt Competition Kids & teens will start at 9 AM. As such we ask that all Masters and Black Belts arrive on time so there are enough judges for the black belt competition. Please look at the schedule below.

PLEASE NOTE: Competitors should arrive 20 minutes prior to your start time.
Encourage your students to pre-register to keep the cost for them at a minimum.
EARLY REGISTRATION online or postmarked by January 15, 2018 to compete in all events at the tournament (breaking, forms and sparring) the fee is $50.
REGISTRATION: January 16-25th: The fees is $60
Online registration is closed on January 26.
Registration at the door on January 27, the day of the event, for the tournament will be $60 for one division, $70 for two divisions or $80 for all three divisions

Boards will be provided 1 board Gups, 2 Boards Black BeltsWOOD ONLY! NO SPACERS. One station only for Gups. Two stations only for Dans. Striking multiple targets simultaneously will be considered one station. Striking multiple targets in sequence while airborne will count as one station. Otherwise one target will be considered one station.Wood, sizes: Teen (1x12x8) – Youth (1x12x6) All Black Belts will use (1x12x8) regardless of age!Tigers & Dragons ½”x4”
Only forms that are recognized requirements for Tang Soo Do Organization are allowed. Competitors may demonstrate the form they are working on for their next promotion or any junior level form. Competitors may be asked to demonstrate (2) at a time.
All competitors must wear molded foam type safety equipment. NO Exceptions! Safety equipment will include head gear, hand gear, foot gear and a mouthpiece. A groin cup for males is required.ACCEPTABLE TARGET AREA:The front and sides of the body from the belt up. The head to include the front and sides of the face.UNACCEPTABLE TARGET AREA:The body below the belt; any part of the back to include the kidneys, the back of the neck and the top of the head are all unacceptable targets.ALLOWABLE CONTACT: Light contact to the front and sides of body from the belt up. No contact allowed to the head. This includes face shields. Any properly executed kicking techniques will be allowed. Hand techniques will include lead punch, reverse punch, back fist and ridge hand. NO SPIN BACKFIST!TIME LIMIT:Matches will be unlimited points, high score after (1) two minute round. A tie score after (1) two minute round will result in an additional One minute round. A tie score after the One minute round will result in sudden victory. The next point scored will determine the winner.
